Do you sometimes feel out of place in fancy restaurants?

Half Drawn Boy posted:

I enjoy very good dinner, but sometimes I feel like a fish out of water. I feel silly ordering a menu that is written entirely in Italian or French. A little over a game and pretend to know what I'm asking and then hide my surprise when I bring my food. They also hate having to try the wine. What is the point of that? Anyone has ever returned a bottle of wine after the test? Each also appears in these restaurants twice my age. Do you feel the same elegant joints?

I recently toured 2120 Wyoming Avenue, NW #1 with Shawn Breck of TTR Sotheby’s International Realty. This home is amazing and would be perfect for a couple whose children are grown, or who plan to have a baby in a few years, or those who don’t have any babies in their future. This two-bedroom two and one-half bath condominium offers 2,200 sq/ft. of professionally and artfully planned living space.      New in 2006, this boutique property affords a private elevator opening directly into unit, security system with security camera monitor for buliding interior and exterior areas, and private parking for two vehicles.

by C.J.S. Hayward Introduction Do children and adults understand each other? To some degree, and if many adults have lost touch with childhood, there are some who understand childhood very well. But when I was a child, I wanted to write a book about things adults don’t understand about children. (I have since forgotten with what I wanted to write.) There is a gulf. A father can read a Calvin and Hobbes strip, and his little girl can ask what’s funny, and the father is in a pickle.

I had been hearing a lot about the new W launched this Summer in DC so this past weekend I decided to head downtown and check it out with a group of friends.  In general, I’m a big fan of Starwood Hotels so had high expectations walking in, tempered slightly by some of the stories I had heard from friends who had trouble getting in.  Thankfully, we didn’t have any issues at the door and I was more than impressed with the overall experience of the venue.

I came across a feature in the August issue of Food & Wine magazine that I really enjoyed, and I wanted to share it with you in case you missed it. Usually, when food mags show “easy entertaining ideas” I can’t help but roll my eyes a bit. Do you know what I mean? I love looking at articles showing elaborate spreads that take days and days to make from scratch, but in reality those recipes just end up in my recycling bin. However. There is an article in Food & Wine crammed full of creative summer parties.

Anyone familiar with traditional Spanish tapas can attest to the fact that the phrase “vegan tapas” is almost an oxymoron. Which means, of course, that tapas are exactly what CH was in the mood for on his b-day a few weeks ago! (Not vegan tapas, per se , but I digress…) As a result, when I decided to make him a delicious spread of vegan tapas for dinner, I felt like I was grasping at straws. So, I kept racking my brain for ideas based upon the food that we encountered in Spain years ago.

But if you’re at the shore in the summertime, you could use blackfish, bluefish, monkfish or grouper fillet—basically any fish that’s thick enough to stand up to grilling. (No endangered species like bluefin tuna, please.) Preheat the grill. Create a hot side and a cooler side so you can shift the fish around to different spots as you’re grilling.

In order to minimize cutbacks libraries need to play to their strengths and promote how much value they offer to anyone who chooses to use them.

You know, in the course of putting my mind back to the task of completing the first round of Gormenghastocabulary, I’ve realized that I’ve marked off words as “new” that I technically knew. Which is weird. Like this morning I was preparing to do this and saw that one of the next in the list was “malkin.” I know what that means. Further, its meaning was contextually evident. It was Countess Groan, and she was talking to her cats, and malkin is a synonym for cat.

Imagine to my surprise when I found out that the Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc – a delightfully citrus-y, fruity and refreshing white wheat beer – comes from France. If you like the Belgian Hoegaarden , you’re bound to like this. It even has the same flavouring ingredients, such as coriander seed and orange peel. I first tried this brew at the new KPO Cafe Bar within the Killiney Post Office building (they have it on tap), when a business acquaintance of mine was back in town from New York and a few of us decided catch up there.

Dry White wine is a quality wine and one of my preferred wines. As you know, the price of Dry White wine varies considerably depending on things like the variety and vintage and for sure, plenty of other factors, but luckily you are able to easily get low priced bottles for regular drinking. One of the best ways to get Dry White wine is to buy at auction. This means, you could pick from a greater variety than what you could buy at your local supermarket, plus you have the convenience of purchasing online and having the bottles of wine posted to your home or office.

The French may make great wine, but I have yet to see any evidence they can make a decent zombie movie. The best thing that can be said for Jean Rollin’s The Grapes of Death is that it is much better than his other undead attempt, Zombie Lake . Considering Zombie Lake is one of the worst films ever, that’s the very definition of damnation by faint praise. The other thing that can be said for it is Brigitte Lahaie naked. Of course, the woman made porn, so it’s not like this is your best chance to see that.

I ambitiously invited fifteen people, twelve of whom were able to attend–well, eleven really. Natalie was sick. Beginning last Wednesday, I started shopping for the event.
