There is something I’ve noticed over the past few years - and you can call it growing up, settling down, selling out, whatever - but at a certain point you have to decide to either 1) start taking care of yourself because you want to live a  long, mostly healthy life or to just 2) continue drinking, smoking, partying, eating horribly, neglecting basic health and dental care, not exercising, sleeping poorly (too much or too little), etc. as if you are 23 when in fact you’re more like 29 or 33 or getting close to it.

We couldn’t resist. It was a gorgeous night and we said, “We have to go. It’s important to support them.” So along with our friends Susan and Jay, we popped over to the first sit down Milton restaurant in twenty years to offer dinner with wine and beer in Milton, 88 Wharf,  for their opening night. We had no idea what to expect.  Well, it was great. The partners John Collins and Matt Sullivan could not have asked for a nicer night. We arrived about 6:30 and found the retaurant about half full.

As most of my friends know, in general I rarely watch sports on TV. I enjoy watching the occasional baseball game or series, college basketball when it gets exciting, and I love but rarely watch F1 racing. Lately I’ve been drawn to watching soccer, but my peak in interest is in large part due to wanting to enroll my son in soccer this fall. When I go to a restaurant or bar that features a television, I typically try to face away from the TV only because it’s such a huge distraction for me to paying attention to those I’m with.

The summer is the optimum period for savoring the Mediterranean red mullet. There are primarily two species of red mullet in the Mediterranean, Mullus surmuletus rouget de roche in French or striped red mullet, and Mullus barbatus or rochet de vase or rouget de sable in French or sand red mullet. I would not be so quick to frequent a blog that only talked about how perfect the kids were, how well mom cooked from scratch, how clean and beautiful the house is, how unfrazzled she is at the end of the day…Sure, I like those stories, but if I have a bad day, or am making dinner from a box or cleaning the crayon from my entire floor, or changing the 3rd blowout of the day, or ready to pull my hair out for a variety of reasons, those posts just will NOT make me feel better.
