Winemaking is a complicated business, but here are some basics for you.
Varietal & Region- Chardonnay & Central Coast. Each grape has it’s own flavor profile, and generally speaking, so does each region. Central coast chards usually have a lot of fruit flavors and a “buttery” characteristic.
Where does this buttery thing come from? 2 places, the barrels that the juice is stored in and the fermentation process.
Vanilla, oak, butter, cream are flavors that leach from the barrels-ever wonder why whiskeys and the like have a vanilla flavor? They are stored in oak BARRELS. Oak tastes good. They are ALSO flavors that occur from a particular type of fermentation used commonly in CCoast Chards, called “malolactic fermentation”. Look it up.
Go to the winery’s website and see what they have to say.
