Good question and you absolutely correct with the price vs. quality or “pleasure factor” of a bottle of champagne. Dom Perignon is sooooooooooo over rated and not worth the money that people spend on it. For a nice bottle under $40 I would suggest a bottle Tattinger Brut Reserve or Demi Sec. Both are a fine French Champagne choice with very fine ( tiny) bubbles and subtle flavors of fresh fruit. The Brut Reserve has a hint of honey where as the Demi Sec is a little deeper in color and slightly bolder taste. If you want to stay under $20, I would stick with a nice bottle of Korbel. They are from California and have a nice selection of decent champagnes that will not break your bank! Cheers and Happy New Year!!!!

    Best under $20 would be:

Charles de Fere Brut Blanc de Blancs Reserve and

Charles de Fere Jean-Louis Brut Blanc de Blancs

    Ballatore Gran Spumante, California – it’s a little sweet… crisp… tasty

Codorniu Cava Rose, Spain – creamy, cherry, soft spice

Domaine Ste. Michelle Blanc de Noir Sparkling, Washington – Nicely balanced, crisp and appley

Gruet Brut St. Vincent Sparkling, New Mexico

Segura Viudas Aria Estate Cava Brut, Spain – creamy pear fruit taste

Domaine Chandon Riche, California – hint of sweetness, great with food

    Best Under $40 would include:

Iron Horse Wedding Cuvee Brut, California – crisp acidity, tangerine, green apple flavors

Pol Roger Brut Reserve Champagne, France

Roederer Estate Brut Sparkling, California – about as close as you can get to champagne without it being French :)

Bollinger Special Cuvee Brut Champagne – honey, apple, citrus with a vanilla/coffee finish – at the edge of the price point, generally about $39 but really worth it!

    Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve

Taittinger Brut La Francaise – subtle and elegant as always

Ballatore 100% the best champagne I’ve ever had.
We served it at my wedding… Everybody loved it so much we ran out. Its a sweet champagne not dry.
It runs $4.99-$5.99. I LOVE IT!!
