Brie is always great, heat and serve with french bread, red and green grapes and other fruits, also a Havarti with hot peppers in it, sort of like a pepper jack, but the Havarti is much smother and buttery of a cheese, serve with some gourmet crackers.
I prefer jack cheese or spicy cheese with red wine. In addition, I’m not sure if you like sushi, but good yellow tail tuna sashimi would be awesome with red wine.
Most cheeses work well with most wines. Be playful and get some you have never had. Good blues sucj as Gorgonzola are always a hit. Gouda and brie are staples as well. But try some odd ones too.
As for an appetizer-this always kill sat parties.
Get a round of Brie, about 8 inches around. Cut off the top-a serated knife works best. Spread roasted garlic on the top evenly. Now the tricky part. Wrap the whole thing in puff pastry and bake at 350 degrees for about 25 minutes and serve with bread and crackers.
It is oooey and gooey and delicious.
Good luck.
